 PHYSICAL ACTIVITY
In many cases, the physical activity is a help in the arteriosclerosis. The basic beginning is to insert sufficient exercise periods to produce legs pain, with rest periods.
With the time the necessary quantity of exercise to produce pain is increasing, since the circulation ends up by improving: The blood glasses develop collateral that jump the occlusions.
TOBACCO
The smokers have a special risk of developing arteriosclerosis. Also, the smoker has less aptitude in the blood to take oxygen to the textiles (therefore it has to increase the number of red globules to live).
The nicotine restricts the arteriolas. The tobacco favors the thrombocytes deposition in microscopic areas damaging the most internal layers of the arteries, and favoring the cholesterol accumulation in these areas.

MEDICATION
Medications have been used antiagregantes plaquetarias, like the aspirin (that also removes the pain), and medications vasodilatadoras like the pentoxifilina (Efortil) or the Lofton, of controversial efficacy.
SURGERY
It is used for all those persons with extreme difficulty for gait, intense pain, gangrene or risk of loss of the extremity. They can be done angioplastias (with similar skills to described for the coronary angioplastia) and derivations (by-pass) replacing the piece of artery affected by a made artificial glass of Dacron ®.
