 HOW IS IT EVIDENT?
The principal characteristic is the appearance of typical symptoms that continues to the exhibition of a stressful and extremely traumatic event, and where the individual turns out to be wrapped in facts that represent a real danger for his life or physical integrity; the individual is a witness of an event where deaths take place, injured men or the individual knows across nearby someone events that imply unexpected or violent deaths (if it happens for example to a son).
A persistent reexperimentation of the event happens in the shape of flashbacks or nightmares.
The answer of the subject must include fear, despair and intense horrors.
There happens an increase of the emotional answer: frights, attacks of anger, insomnia... All the symptoms must be present more than one month to be considered to be a disorder and to provoke real deterioration of the familiar, social or labor life of the subject.
These traumatic events are usually: combats of war, armed robberies, sexual assaults, theft of properties, sequestrations, diagnoses of illnesses, accidents...
HOW ARE THESE SUBJECTS?
They usually feel bitterly guilty if they survived a situation in which others died. They avoid everything related, enclosed speaking it, which can lead to conflicts. In some serious cases auditory hallucinations and paranoias happen.
When the event is of interpersonal character like sexual abuses, there can appear self-destructive behaviors, physical complaints (pains), feelings of shame, desperation, hostility and deterioration of the relations.
Commonly we usually say: "It is unable to overcome it".
CAUSES
Since we have said, it is a type of very clear disorder with a cause; the personal experience or of nearby someone of a traumatic event. More probabilities exist in case the subject was already enduring some type I disorder. Also there exist evidences of a hereditary component in the transmission of this disorder, and the children of depressive parents seem more inclined according to realized studies.
PREDOMINANCE
It affects 2 % of the population of the EU. In studies realized between survivors to traumatic events, it affects to almost the half.
