DEFINITION
The disorder schizoid of the personality is characterized by a distancing of the social relations and of restriction of the emotional expression in the person who endures it. As in most of the personality disorders, these bosses begin at the beginning of the adult age and happen in diverse contexts.
HOW IS IT EVIDENT?
There exist seven criteria that form the personality of the subject schizoid, of which it will have to fulfill at least four so that the disorder is diagnosed. There are the following ones:
- He neither wants nor enjoys the interpersonal relations, including being part of a family (they do not demonstrate to have desires of intimacy nor to form friendly bonds)
- He chooses almost always solitary activities (They Usually use the time in themselves, more than to be with other persons)
- It has scarcely or no interest to have sexual experiences with another person.
- He enjoys few ones or no activity (They Usually prefer abstract and mechanical activities as games of computer and mathematical)
- It does not have intimate friends or confidence persons, apart from the relatives of the first grade.
- It proves to be indifferent to the sweet talk or criticism of the others (they Usually show a "soft" aspect without visible emotional reactivity)
- It shows emotional coldness, distancing or leveling of the affectivity (they usually do not experience strong emotions of anger or happiness)
HOW ARE THESE SUBJECTS?
One of the characteristics easiest of recognizing in these subjects is that they spend most of his time shut up in his room. In the everyday life they can have special difficulties to express the anger, even in situations in which the provocation is direct. His lives seem not to go nowhere and usually react passively even to the most adverse situations. On the other hand, his labor activity can be spoiled if he supposes treating with other persons anyway, although in labor activities that develop in an isolated ambience they can be unrolled well. In addition to all this, the subjects schizoids can experience very brief psychotic episodes (that last minutes or hours) in answer to the stress. Finally, the disorder schizoid of the personality is observed usually simultaneously with the personality disorders esquizotípico, paranoid and for avoidance.
PREDOMINANCE
As for the predominance, the disorder schizoid is very little frequent inside the clinical environment, she happens more in males that in women and, as for the familiar boss, it can be more prevalente in subjects that direct relatives have with schizophrenia or with disorder esquizotípico of the personality, according to the DSM-IV.
