WHAT SOUND?
The strips you reactivate of urine they consist of a few small tapes of rigid plastic, of a few centimeters of length and about half a centimeter of width, to that there are given a few reagents, which are different depending on what it wants to be analyzed.
The reagents are a few children cuadraditos of a porous material, of soft colors. According to the strips, there can be different number of them along the same one.
TYPES
Fundamentally two:
- Qualitative: or they give positive, or give negative. If there is in the urine the substance for that they look, give positive, but they do not give idea if there is great or small concentration of the same one.
- Quantitative: in addition to giving positive, they can change very much or little of color, giving idea if there is very much or little of the product that they try to analyze in the urine.
HOW DO THEY WORK
These cuadraditos are impregnated with substances that, in contact with what they want to analyze (for example, if it is a reagent for sugar in urine, since to the contact with this glucose) they react changing the color.
The change of color can be from little intensely, even very important.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
Normally, they can be used in two different ways:
- Soaking them in the jet of the urine.
- Gathering urine in a specific receptacle for it, and later wetting the strip in her.
After having wetted the strips, they are extracted and time is given so that they do reaction. According to what one tries to measure the time it is major or minor, but normally this information is incluída in the packing.
When the sufficient thing has passed, one proceeds to his reading. There are diverse methods:
- The qualitative strips, which only say if there is or not a substance in the urine: if they change color, they are positive. If they do not change, denials. For example, the pregnancy test commercialized usually.
- The quantitative strips, which change more or less color as how much substance beech in the urine: they bring a colors scale in the packing; the strip is placed next to the above mentioned scale, and is decided to which of the corresponding colors it looks alike more. In this group, there are also strips that measure several things simultaneously, how blood, leukocytes, glucose, proteins... In these cases, the scale of colors of the packing takes the references of the color in the same order as the strip. The strip is placed along the scale, so that the first picture of the strip coincides with the first one of the scale, the second one with the second one... and one proceeds to the same explained comparison.
