DEFINITION
The radiotherapy is a term that is used in general to describe the skills of treatment of the cancer by means of radiations.
HOW DOES IT ACT
As the chemotherapy, the radiotherapy is active in the maturation and growth of the cells, as the cancerous ones are more active and grow more rapid that the normal ones are usually more sensitive to the radiations and by it they are destroyed by more facility with the radiations that the normal ones.
In case of the radiotherapy there are normal cells of rapid growth that can turn affected by the radiation, principally the cells of the skin and of the hair; for it they usually see often side effects of the radiation in the shape of fall of hair and burns in the skin.
WHEN IT IS USED
The radiations it can be used like the only treatment associated with chemotherapy or serve to reduce the size of certain tumors so that then they could be extirpated by means of surgery. In other occasions it is used like secondary treatment to eliminate the residues of tumor that stay after a surgery or a chemotherapy.
Not always it is used like curative treatment, sometimes it is only a conservative treatment, that is to say that limits the size of the tumors to improve the quality of life of the affected patient of cancer.

The possible side effects of the radiotherapy are:
- Fatigue and discomfort
- Alterations in the cells of the blood
- Difficulty or pain to the deglutir
- Eritema and edema in the skin
- Fall or descamación of the skin
- You stain in the skin
- Atrophy of the skin
- Itching in the skin
- Pain in the skin
- Changes in the sense of the taste
- Mouth dryness
- Anorexia
- Morning sickness
- Vomiting

- Increase of the infections
- Fetal damage in pregnant women
