DESCRIPTION
The prostate gland surrounds the urethra and when it grows can cause problems on having urinated. The increase of the size of the prostate (hypertrophy of prostate) can be caused by a sobrecrecimiento of the gland (benign hypertrophy of prostate) or by a tumoración or cancer (prostate carcinoma).
The extraction of the prostate can be done by means of a resection transuretral or by means of an access route suprapúbica with an incision in the low abdomen.
It is possible to realize under general anesthesia or with sedation and local anesthesia.
The resection transuretral realizes by means of a special type of citoscopio (resectoscopio) that interferes across the orifice of the urethra placed in the end of the penis (meato uretral day pupil) to gain access up to the prostate. By means of a cutting instrument the prostate comes out. It is cauterized by means of an electrical scalpel and then a probe is left in the urethra to allow to empty the bladder for some days, which simultaneously serves like drainage of exudados, of blood or pus.
The access intervention suprapúbico is realized by means of an abdominal incision. One gains access to the prostate and is extracted.
