DEFINITION
It is a very rare consequence of some type of disorder in the spinal cord, of leukemia or of inflammation of the urethra. It is a supported and sometimes painful erection that happens without sexual stimulation.
In the priapismo, the penis is firm but the head of the penis (glans) is soft. The penis begins to fill with blood as in a normal erection, but the blood does not go out out and the erection does not disappear, after a stimulus or sexual activity, in contrast to what it happens in a normal erection. The name of priapismo comes from the Latin "Priapus" that was the name of the god male and fertile in the classic mythology.
If the erection is painful and does not disappear, he asks for medical help. An early treatment is necessary to preserve the aptitude of the penis to stop a normal erection.
His doctor will examine the penis and will realize different tests to determine the fundamental cause.
