DEFINITION
The mastitis is the infection of the mammary textile for bacteria that have penetrated in this textile across the fissures and conduits of the nipple.
CAUSES OF MASTITIS
The absence of suitable hygiene or the fisuración of the skin of the nipples in the lactation can allow normal bacteria through that they live on the skin (staphylococcuses) to penetrate in the greasy textile of the breast and to proliferate. Producing thus a gumboil and abceso that compresses the conduits of exit of the milk of the breast.
Thus the breast becomes painful, puts itself of intense red color, an intense heat takes place in the area and the milk exit is made difficult.
SYMPTOMS OF MASTITIS
- Pain of the breast
- Increase of size of the breast
- Reddening of the breast
- Heat in the breast
- Possible pus secretion for the nipple
- Sensibility increase in the nipple
- Presence of inflamed and painful ganglions in the armpits
- Fever and discomfort
TREATMENT OF THE MASTITIS
- The application of local heat by means of humid cloths several times a day can be very useful to locate the infection and to avoid his extension.
- Oral or intramuscular route usually gives itself an antibiotic of wide bogey.
- Extraction of the maternal milk by means of marries milk or if the antibiotic allows it supporting the lactation.
- It is necessary to carry to extremes the hygiene of the breast.
- If it is complicated there can appear an abscess that needs an incision with needle or with scalpel and secondary drainage of the content, in this case it is recommended to suspend the lactation.
