It is a surgical intervention to repair the skin of the face and neck it withers, wrinkled and sunken that takes place for the passage of time, for a poor nutritive diet or also for hereditary tendency. It is realized removing the fat excess, tightening the principal muscles, and refilling the skin of the face and neck.

The wrinkles in the skin appear as the years are happening, especially in the area of about the mouth and nose, of the eyes "crow's feet", in the interciliary area (area between two eyebrows), etc. The fat deposits appear about the neck.

The jaw becomes slack and fallen (dewlap). Other factors that they can contribute to problems in the skin in younger persons are a poor diet, the tobacco, the obesity and also the hereditary factors. The face lift helps to improve the visible damages of the skin and muscles, as well as to recover a younger aspect. The face lift also can be realized making use of an operation to reconstruct the nose or to stretch of the eyelids.

The face lift can be done by two types of anesthesia. One is the local anesthesia (the patient is sleepy and without pain). The different one is the general anesthesia in which the patient is deeply asleep, without feeling pain.

The plastic surgeon realizes a few incisions on the line of the hair, in the temples, behind the lobe of the ears and in the low area of the scalp. Later it extracts the greasy textile, stretches the skin and, finally, it sews (suture) the incisions.

Normally it is realized to reduce the signs of the passage of time you (wrinkle) with that the patient feels unsatisfied. This can, even, create problems of health.

Most of the patients are satisfied with the results.

Sometimes the surgeon has to place a small drainage pipe under the skin of behind the ear to drain a small quantity of blood that can accumulate in this place. A few sufficiently compressive bandages are placed about the head, to avoid the distension and the cardinals (haematomas). Normally the patient usually does not feel very uncomfortable after the face lift.

In any case it is possible to administer some medication for the pain. The patient can notice drowsiness in the skin: this is normal and it disappears in a few weeks.

The patient must support the head raised with two pillows (at least in an angle of 30 grades) to avoid the distension.

The drainage pipe (if it has been necessary to place it) comes out after 1 ó 2 days of having realized the intervention.

The bandages come out after 1 to 5 days.

The face can turn out to be pale, purple and puffed up, but within a period of 4 to 6 weeks it will recover a normal aspect.

Most of the points comes out in 5 days, although sometimes the points or staples placed in the rim of the scalp are left some days more, because they can take something more in cicatrizar.

During 10 to 14 days the patient notices distension, tension, drowsiness, haematomas, etc. Most of the scars hide in the line of the hair and disappear after months. The solar exhibition is dissuaded.

• Injuries of the facial nerves, with palsy that, often, is transitory.
