 DEFINITION
The hirsutismo is the excessive growth of the hair, especially in women.
GENERAL INFORMATION
The hirsutismo appears in some women, so that hair begins to grow in the face, thorax, ears and other areas where only the men usually have it. This growth of the hair can be caused by the use of certain medicines (fenitoína) to treat the epilepsy and in some other to control the hypertension. Other times are tumors and other processes of the adrenal glands or of the ovaries those that cause the hirsutismo.
Nevertheless, in many cases, after the analyses, the doctor does not find explanation. In these cases one speaks about hirsutismo idiopático (of not well-known origin).
In most of the chaos this hirsutismo idiopático owes to an increase of the androgen (masculine hormone) but, in spite of it, the affected person has normal rules, has the normal ovaries, they do not have adrenal tumors or alteration of function of the adrenal gland.
TREATMENT
These causes being discarded the problem is important but the recommended solution there are the cosmetic measurements (for example, electric depilation...).
There are no medicines approved for this specific use but they usually use hormones of the group of cortisone, some diuretic, and true contraceptive that contain estrogen and progesterone, which has been proved like inhibitor of synthesis of androgen.
But these medicines it has his risks and they are not uniformly effective in every affected patient and, in general, they are late months in doing effect. By it cosmetic measurements are recommended.
