The word hemangioma comes from the Greek "hemagio-" that it means related to the blood glasses, and "-oma" that it represents a distension or tumor.
The hemangiomas are the benign tumor that more commonly appears in the newborn babies, although generally the newborn baby does not demonstrate the vascular spot on having been born, but it is developing it for his first weeks of life.
They are more frequent in girls that males (3 to 1). They have an influence of 10-12 % in the general population.
