DEFINITION
The galactorrea is the abnormal exit of milk or liquid in the nipples, out of lactation periods in the women or in a man.
The secretions appearance in the breasts can be in the men and in women without previous pregnancies and the cause is usually a hormonal problem or of another type. The secretion can change of consistency, of color, purulent, bloody, etc...
In the newborn baby it can happen due to the presence of hormones (prolactina) proceeding from the mother, but it is transitory until this hormone disappears and is what one it usually calls a witches milk.
CAUSES
The most frequent thing the elevation of the hormone is called prolactina that takes place in the pineal gland, for a tumor secretante at this level.
Also it is possible to produce for a papilloma or benign tumor of breast called papilloma intraductal.
Other causes can be the mammary abscess, the fibrosis quística of breast, even a malignant breast tumor.
Another group of causes is the use of certain medicines as they are:
- The contraceptive ones
- The alpha metildopa (used in the Parkinson)
- The cimetidina
- The metoclopramida
- Fenotiacinas and antidepressants
- The Verapamilo
DIAGNOSIS
It will have to consult with the gynecologist that by means of an exploration, analytical, ultrasound scans and cranial TAC will come to a diagnosis and it can put a treatment adapted to every case.
