The separation anxiety is the apprehension that the child (and often the parents also) feel on having left another person.
The separation anxiety can be caused by a number of factors, one of which is an abnormal proximity grade between the child and the father and/or the mother. This "excess of proximity" can begin when one of the parents is absent, or there is a significant illness in the family. In these cases, some children are afraid that it happens something bad if they go away of house.
The separation anxiety can be masked by a series of such unexplained physical symptoms like pains of intestine or of head, which do that the parents allow to the child to remain at home and not to go to the school. On the other hand, it is frequent that a child does not want to go again to the school after being sick, and that he prefers to prolong the cozy sensation that they take care of it at home.
In exceptional cases, the parents must think if there exist other reasons for which the child does not want to return to the school. Anyway, as soon as possible return, better for the child: the rehabilitation will be harder as it loses classes. Often, when it turns to the normal situation, the routine of the classes and the interaction with the partners, the illness symptoms disappear.
The parents must understand that going to the school is an important step in the process of development and socialization of the child. The way from the protected and dependent childhood to the independence responsible for the adult life goes on for the school, and this one is, probably, insustituíble for other education alternatives.
