SYMPTOMS
The diarrhea, as the constipation, is not an illness in itself, but a symptom of a disorder which gravity depends on the cause that causes it. The diarrhea characterizes for the frequent evacuation of watery dregs, without forming, what provokes a scarce absorption of water and elements nutrients. It can go or not accompanied by pain, weakness, morning sickness, vomiting, abdominal spasms (twistings), fever or loss of appetite.
The diarrhea can be sharp or chronic. The first one, of sudden appearance, usually lasts one or two days, the same with treatment than without him. The second one can extend during enough time, is usually a result of many factors and sometimes it is a symptom of a more important disorder.
The disorder can have his origin in the diet, toxiinfecciones you would feed, infections, medicines, chronic illnesses, stress emotionally, etc.
If the diarrhea owes to a physiological disorder it is possible to correct to a great extent and even to be avoided by a correct feeding.
GENERAL MEASUREMENTS
- To restore urgently (taking broth, juices, refreshments, tea, etc.) the liquids and electrolytes eliminated by the dregs. Little by little to incorporate meals of easy digestion, scarce and frequent, up to returning to the normal diet.
- If the diarrhea is moderated, the water and the lost salt can be restored alternating throughout the day gulps of the following drinks:
- An apple or orange juice glass with half a teaspoonful of honey and a pinch of salt.
- Another glass with boiled water and a quarter of teaspoonful of bicarbonate sódico.
TREATMENT
- The medicines antidiarréicos are directed to treat the symptoms of the diarrhea or the such disorders like the loss of liquids or electrolytes.
- Do not forget that it is better to treat little for that sobretratar the diarrhea and sometimes there is necessary to look the cause that motivates it.
CONSULT HIS DOCTOR WHEN:
- If the symptoms do not send in a brief time period (48 h) or there is high fever, sharp abdominal pain, bloody dregs or intense discomfort.
- In cases of constant vomiting that prevent a correct oral rehydration.
- In cases of chronic diarrhea.
- In cases of serious sharp diarrhea.
- In diarrhea of children younger than three years, for the biggest dehydration danger.
- In patients with history of chronic illness, like asthma, peptic ulcer, cardiac illness or diabetes.
