From the 50s several hundreds of thesis have been published and it continues and there is no clear definition. In general terms, dependency bears a pejorative tone. If one applies to an adult it is synonymous of immaturity. The Dependency is related to weakness, passivity, immaturity, topcoat typical of women, children and persons desadaptadas. Many authors insist on the distinction between normal dependency adapted to the circumstances and pathological dependency. For being social, the human being is dependent because it is something essential and useful. Also there is conceived the dependency as incapability to solve proper problems of the age, the opposite that ripeness: to be able to do what corresponds at the age. In psychology there is conceived a concept of dependency very near to that of immaturity, which means that as you are independent you will be mature and autonomous. Three types of independence need to be mature:
According to a theory, the dependency is the result of the supergratification of the child, or of everything opposite, of a big frustration for a sudden change in the infancy as the loss of the mother. This generates an incapability to solve proper problems of the age. The theory of the relations parents - children says that the paternal superprotection predicts the dependency in the adolescence, and that the authoritarianism does that it develops obedience, to the being the padrea who decide for them also will be dependent. Also it is necessary to be cautious in spite of demanding from the child not proper independent conducts of his age and for which it is not prepared because it would provoke a descent of his self-esteem, inferiority complex and therefore search of support (dependency).
They are persons who perceived not to be wanted in his infancy (it does not have because to be real, there are parents who cannot show it) and who have learned that it is necessary to give very much to receive something in return. In the relations, these persons take a passive attitude, leave that the others take the reins of his life. They have an excessive need that they face them. It is demonstrated that they ask more for help of the normal thing, therefore they usually turn out to be a little heavy. Also they are more perceptive because after more of the others need, also they need to understand them more. The dependency is associated with numerous disorders:
