Measurement of the thickness of the bone. Measurement of bony thickness.
DEFINITION
The densitometría is an exploration that uses low doses of x-rays that happen for the whole body, and take a radiography at level of the low part of the spine and of the hip. There are devices less sophisticated that can measure this thickness in the doll or in the heel.
That is to say that by means of a system of Rx of low potency it is possible to measure the thickness of calcium of the bones, it offers us information on the possible presence of an osteoporosis and the risk of bony breaks.
In general the thickness measures itself on a few bosses of age and of every bone, for it the measurement of the thickness in the doll cannot offer information on the risks of a break of hip.
- The densitometría is one of the most trustworthy skills of measuring the bony health and being able to make the treatment adapted to prepare the osteoporosis.
- The repetition in the time of the same skill allows to take the control of the bony loss in every person.
- The densitometría also is going to serve to us like way of control of the improvement of the bony thickness on having put a treatment.
INDICATIONS OF THE DENSITOMETRÍA
- Women older than 65 years.
- Women younger than 65 years with additional osteoporosis risks.
RESULTS OF THE DENSITOMETRÍA
They usually evaluate the results of the exploration as measurement of thickness with regard to persons of the same age and sex (Z) and with regard to 30-year-old persons (T).
The minor results of 0 the bony thickness is diminished, but there are results to be taken into consideration when they are minor than less 1 (-1), the major results of less 1 (-1) are inside reasonable margins.
This way the results usually express themselves:
- Osteopenia: T from-1 to-2,5
- Osteoporosis: T of minor of-2,5
