DEFINITION
The cystitis is an infection or inflammation of the urinal bladder or the urethra, which produces diverse symptoms.

SYMPTOMS
The most frequent are:
- Dark color of the urine
- Shakes
- Weariness
- Pain of the penis in the man
- Pain in the side
- Pain in the sexual relation
- Fever
- Pressure in the low part of the pelvis
- Painful micturition ó disuria
- Frequent need to urinate
- Urgent need to urinate
- Need to urinate in the night
- Strong smell of the urine
- Blood in the urine
- Vomiting
PREVENTION
Since it is an infectious problem it is necessary to carry to extremes the cleanliness of the genital area, and especially to do it from forward backwards to prevent the bacterium E. coli from coming to the urethra from the rectal area.
Also it is usually good to avoid spending cold or to sit down in cold places for the long time.
The persons with tendency to have cystitis must do very frequent micturitions and increase his liquids consumption.
DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT

- Cultivation of the urine (sterile sample) and an antibiograma, to know the cause of the infection and the treatment adapted for the causative bacterium of the process.

- Nitrofurantoína
- Quinolonas
- Sulfonamidas
- Trimetoprim-sulfametoxazol
If the cystitis is very frequent it can be necessary to use antibiotic or antiseptic urinal during long periods (from 6 months until 2 years). They will be used to high doses in the sharp periods and lower prophylactic doses once the sharp symptoms have disappeared.
