DEFINITION
The blefaroplastia or surgery of the eyelids is a procedure of surgery that corrects the excess of fat and of skin in the top and low eyelids, correcting the fall of the top eyelids and the bags or low pouches.
This procedure has no efficacy on the wrinkles of the side street of the eyes (crow's feet) or another type of wrinkles.
INDICATIONS
The patients with pouches or bags in eyelids, which generally are of hereditary origin and give weariness appearance are the best candidates. PROCEDURE
The surgery of the eyelids is realized in a prepared operating theater of ambulatory form, a revenue is not necessary, only a control is needed for some hours.
It is possible to realize with local anesthesia and a tranquilizer or in certain cases with general anesthesia.
The intervention can last between 1 at 2 hours depending on every case.
It is necessary to plan and to draw the intervention previously in both eyelids.
An incision is realized in the crease of the top eyelid and other one in the rim of the eyelashes for the low one.
By means of a small fork there are separating the planes of fat, skin and muscle. The remaining fat is extracted, the skin stands out and sometimes something of the muscles touches. Later the incisions close with a very thin esthetic suture. Then it applies a lubricant ointment to itself in the eyes and it is possible to cover with a bandage.
CARE AFTER THE SURGERY
- In case of pain it will be possible to take an analgesic type Paracetamol.
- It must support the straight head and even when it is knocked down / to, must support the head raised with regard to the body.
- Cold compresses or masks of plastic can be applied with liquids congelables.
- It is necessary to wash the eyes as his surgeon will explain to him.
- It is possible that it should take or apply eyewashes adapted to every case to him.
- The stitches will be withdrawn within one week.
- During the first days it will notice distension and haematomas in the eyes.
- It will have to take sunglasses and/or apply an entire solar filter to him for some weeks.
- Sometimes inconveniences appear in the vision and photophobia that they will be eliminating.
- It must be in rest at home and small walks up to the week, then it will be able already to do normal life and join to the work from the 10th day.
- To go in for sport and exercise must wait approximately 4 weeks.
- If it uses contact lenses he will have to wait at least 2 weeks to put them.
COMPLICATIONS OF THE BLEFAROPLASTIA
- The proper ones of a surgery, infections of the area, hemorrhages and reactions for the anesthesia.
- The proper ones of this intervention, blurry or double vision, asymmetric scars, incomplete closing of eyelids and the ectropion or detached eyelids (he will be necessary correction with surgery).
