DEFINITION
The astigmatism is an alteration of the vision that produces lack of focus in the sight. This shaken vision is caused by an irregular curvature of the cornea of the eye and by it the objects are not seen by clarity. An eye with astigmatism loses the aptitude to see with clarity the objects in detail.
The astigmatism usually accompanies often to the myopia or to the farsightedness from the childhood.
DIAGNOSIS
In an examination of routine of the vision it is appreciated on having observed objects in different rotation grades, in some of the angles the clarity of the vision gets lost and by it there is discovered the grades and the intensity of the problem in every eye.
In the infancy or in persons with answer difficulties it is possible to measure the incorrectness of the refraction by means of a retinoscopia (test that uses the reflected light).
TREATMENT
The correction of the astigmatism is principally realized by glasses or hard contact lenses of correction. The soft contact lenses usually do not correct well this problem.
