DESCRIPTION

There are a group of medicines that produce slowing-down of the nervous functions, therefore they produce relaxation or calmness sensation.

They are used to treat pictures of panic, muscular contractions, symptoms of nervousness, insomnia, anxiety, and convulsions.

We can differ between a group of benzodiazepinas that are of short action (between 2 and 10 hours) and of long action (from 12 until 100 hours) in his effect. By it the Triazolam (2 - 4 hours) it is used like instigator of the sleep and, nevertheless, we must use other one in the absence of sleep for premature awakening.

One must be careful if there are previously hepatic illnesses, I abuse alcohol, cerebral illnesses, scarce salivation in the children, glaucoma, hyperactivity, renal illnesses or the lung, miastenia gravis, porfirias, I embarrass, or apnea of the sleep.

During the treatment there can appear convulsions, fever, quakes, muscular weakness lost of reflexes, ntensa asthenia, involuntary movements, labored respiration, dryness of mucous membranes (oral - conjuntival - nasal), eritematosa skin, low blood pressure, slow pulse, light mental alterations or, even, confusion and comma.

The benzodiazepinas cause dependency by what they must be used in short time treatments. On having suspended a treatment with benzodiazepinas, approximately three weeks happen until the body of deshabit&uac· During this time one can notice a skin very sensitive to the pain, intestinal inconveniences, alterations in the vision, low blood pressure, pictures of confusion and alterations of the sleep.

It must not be administered by alcohol, since his activity is promoted, they are not even advisable during the pregnancy and lactation, for happening to the fetus and newborn baby across the afterbirth and maternal milk.

With Alprazolam it see the libido and the erection usually altered, even with absence of orgasm.

The Clonazepam seems to produce increase of the libido, and in the men it can produce ginecomastia.

With Diazepam and Quazepam the libido falters and alterations appear in the menstrual cycles in the women and powerlessness in the men.
