DEFINITION

The acne is the inflammation of the glands pilosebáceas of the skin that it studies with the obstruction of his pores and the appearance of different injuries in the skin.

CAUSES, INCIDENCE AND FACTORS OF RISK

The acne is very frequent in the adolescents, but it can appear in both sexes and in all the ages. It seems that there is a familiar tendency to develop acne. Normally it begins in the puberty and can continue throughout many years. Three of every four adolescents have acne of some scope, probably caused by hormonal changes that stimulate the oil glands producing fat. Other hormonal changes, like that happen during the menstrual period or the pregnancy, and the produced ones by the use of tablets of birth control or the stress, also they aggravate the acne.

Grain

Two clinical forms exist: the light one, called juvenile polymorphous acne or superficial acne and more serious other one, named acne quístico and conglobata or deep acne.

The acne takes place when the oil glands, which produce fat and end in the same follicle of the hair, generate more secretion of which the skin is capable of eliminating for descamación, in such a way that fat stoppers take place in the follicles (blackheads). When the surface of the stopper is darkened there are called blackheads. After the stopper breaks they can bring in cells dead of the skin that with the piled up fat and the bacteria of the area form infected nodules called pustules.

If these areas become infected with the skin are deep, they can expand to form cysts. A sebaceous cyst forms when the oil gland keeps on producing fat. Instead of breaking the wall of the follicle, this one keeps on being enlarged and forming a hard bundle (known like cyst) under the skin. The cyst normally is not painful unless it goes so far as to be infected. The acne appears normally on the face and shoulders but it can spread to the trunk, arms and legs.

The dirt is not the cause of the acne, but the dirt and the fat on the face can aggravate the problem. Other factors that increase the possibility of appearance of the acne are the hormonal changes, the exhibition to extreme climates, tension, greasy skin, alterations endocrines, certain tumors, and the use of certain medicines (such like the cortisone, testosterone, estrogen, and others). The acne is not contagious. The tendency to have acne, can persist even 30 ó 40 years.

The tendency to have acne is inherited. Although he cannot get ready, the suitable hygiene can help to diminish the effects.

TESTS AND TEST

TREATMENT

The treatment is designed in order to prepare the formation of new injuries and to help to cure the old injuries.

The local medicines / local that dry the fat and/or promote the peeling of the skin, they usually contain benzoic peroxide, I sulfurate, resorcinol, acid salicílico or etetronina, or acid retinoico (Retina).

If the injuries become infected there can be prescribed such antibiotics like the tetraciclina or the eritromicina. Also there are used local antibiotics (applied just in the affected area of the skin) such like the clindamicina or the eritromicina to control the infection. The oral tetraciclina is not indicated in the children, until they do not have all his permanent teeth, since it can discolor the teeth that are still forming.

The synthetic vitamin (isotretinoína, Roacutan ®) has demonstrated to be beneficial in the treatment of the intense acne. Nevertheless, the pregnant women and the adolescents sexually active should not take this medication.

Another form of treatment consists of the administration of local or injected cortisone.

Also there exist surgical procedures as the professional peeling of the skin (chemist) peeling the skin, and the dermoabrasión, or the extraction or drainage of the cysts.

The small solar exhibitions improve the acne. Nevertheless, an excessive exhibition to the sun or to the ultraviolet beams is not recommended because the leather cancer risk increases.

There are domestic treatments that can diminish the effects of the acne:

  • LLimpiar the soft skin but completely with soap and water, removing the whole dirt or makeup. The wash as frequent as be needed it controls the fat. It is necessary to realize it at least every day and after the exercise. To use a cloth cleaned every day to prepare infections.
