DEFINITION
The abscess is a located accumulation of material purulent (pus) in any part of the body, caused by an infection.
CAUSES
The abscess is a mechanism of defense of the human body that tries to isolate and delimit an area when an infection appears.
When there is an invasion for bacteria in the organism there is a migration of white globules or leukocytes across the walls of the blood glasses to the area of the infection and they accumulate inside the damaged textile. In this situation there accumulate liquids, living and dead white globules, dead textile and bacteria or any other material or strange invader in the area, which in his set is so called "pus".
Most of the abscesses are of red color, with increase of the volume of the area and more or less painful depending the affected area.
The most frequent are the dental, cutaneous and subcutaneous abscess, the rectal one, that of the glands of Bartolino, the periamigdalino, etc...
TREATMENT
Depending the area and the evolution they can talk each other with antibiotics and local heat.
If they persist a cultivation is realized to know the implied bacterium and the antibiotic adapted to the same one.
Sometimes it is necessary to drain them with needle or scalpel to extract the content and that it does not affect to vital organs for pressure.
